Live my dreams
What I am doing for me is making one of my dreams come true. I have always loved the Olympics. I looked into getting tickets last year to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics for my family but let that dream go when I realized how expensive it would be for the four of us. I then thought that running in the Olympic Torch Relay would be more realistic of a goal, but I was not chosen. I saw Brenda and Renee (from Mothers on Fire) speak at my mother's group and was reminded of my dreams that I had written in a journal in 1996. One of which was to attend the Olympic Games. When Brenda returned this fall to speak, I was reminded again (after a tough summer with a new puppy). One of the most important things I read this fall was: Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things. So I put my focus back on my dream. I blogged about it (my way of journaling) which helped me celebrate small successes and keep trying for the big dream. When tickets went on sale again last week, I spent four and a half hours on two computers and one telephone trying to get through to buy tickets. I finally connected and although most of the events were sold out, I got a single ticket to the Opening Ceremonies. I would love to share the experience with my family, but my choice was to go alone or to not go at all. This is what I am doing for me. Making one of my dreams come true.

Can you share more about your
Can you share more about what your dream is...
my original posting didn't
my original posting didn't work, I had written a few paragraphs and when I saved it, it only showed the two lines you saw which didn't make sense. I kept it in one paragraph now so hopefully it works better.
Fantastic!
That is fantastic! What an amazing story! I will be thinking of you when I watch the opening ceremonies :-)
Are you getting ready for the Olympics?
I am so excited for you and was wondering what is happening with your trip to the Olympics?
Olympic Dream
I'm thrilled to hear that you are making your dream of attending the Olympics come true! It's amazing what can happen when we focus on our dreams. It's a great reminder that we don't have to put all our dreams on hold when we become mothers. Even though your family won't be able to join you, you will be setting a great example for your children - I think it's a story they won't forget!
I'm back
I'm sorry I didn't see your posts sooner. As you can imagine, my month of February was a tad busy. The first couple of weeks with preparations, then my trip and finally upon my return, watching the rest of the Olympics. I did have such an amazing time. Everything seemed to fall into place during my time there. From my dream day in Victoria meeting the man who was responsible for the Terry Fox statue at Mile 0 and getting my photo taken with his Olympic torch and the Terry Fox Statue. Who knew even my day in Victoria would be magical? My first day in Vancouver and the Opening Ceremonies were incredible. An experience that I will never forget. The commute from Victoria was a breeze on the sea plane (I had never been on a sea plane before). Although the weather was horrendous at Cypress Mountain the day before I went, the day for the Men's Moguls where I witnessed Canada's first gold medal at home, the sun even made an appearance. My friend found me a hotel room in Vancouver (across the road from the Olympic cauldron) for that night so I didn't have to rush back from Cypress Mountain. I was able to completely soak in the atmosphere of that first win and then spend an extra day in Vancouver basking in the Olympic euphoria.
Wow what an amazing
Wow what an amazing experience! We were all thinking of you at the opening ceremonies. So glad it was everything you wanted it to be and more. I love that you had a dream and even though you couldn't take your family you still followed your heart and made your dream come true. You are a mother on fire! !!
Welcome back!
Wow! I can't believe you saw Alexandre Bilodeau's victory! It was so emotional watching it from home, I can only imagine how incredible it would have been in person. He set the tone for the rest of the Olympics. So much fun!
