Eat Pray Love
Item Description
If wisdom could be traded like currency, author Elizabeth Gilbert would be a wealthier woman by far, though it's likely her fabulous memoir, Eat Pray Love, racked up a few bucks during its stay on the New York Times bestseller list. What Gilbert imparts in her story--basically, bracing self-knowledge acquired during a year of travel following a bitter divorce and a shattered rebound romance--is at once astounding yet totally obvious. As Gilbert would attest, albeit more eloquently, the most important stuff in life is pretty much under our noses, but we occasionally have to shake ourselves senseless in order to see it (enlisting a guru and a medicine man are highly recommended). Take this simple but devastating observation posited while Gilbert was on the final leg of a global tour. "I have a history of making decisions very quickly about men. I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not only to see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than I care to count with the highest potential of a man, rather than with the man himself, and then I have hung on to the relationship for a long time (sometimes far too long) waiting for the man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance I have been the victim of my own optimism." Ten million women are smiling wry smiles and nodding their heads in agreement (men too, probably, but the book has a definite female skew). Such emotional bulls-eyes are hit early and often in Eat Pray Love, each seemingly more poignant than the last. Alternately funny and heartbreaking and always deeply resonant, Eat Pray Love, takes the reader on two epic journeys - one through Italy, India and Indonesia and the other deep inside Gilbert's intense psyche. Charles Montgomery's towering The Last Heathen: Encounters with Ghosts and Ancestors in Melanesia notwithstanding, travel memoirs just don't get any better than that. --Kim Hughes

Don't read the second part, India

Hello, I was very excitied to read this book and watch the movie, I have not YET seen the movie...
The first part of the book was indeed great, and good story. The second section was terrible, do not read it...I was very disappointed, flipped through most of it. The third section you will need to flip through about half of it.
The problem with the book is it is a chick-lit, AND an encylopedia, we are not looking for the encylopedia portion with this book, the section on india was TOO spiritual, TOO fact based and if you are not into the meaning behind yoga, and indian culture, this is not a section for you to read.
I have heard of several women who did not like the book for many reasons including mine...A GREAT book you should read is "A TOTAL WASTE OF MAKEUP" amazing, and there is a second book out now in the series....anyways back to my disappointing review of Eat, Pray and LOVE....
A book can be about a life journey and what you DID to make a difference in your life and thus, create a change, but this was just a complete let down...I still will RENT the movie now, and I know it will definately be better....
Amazing journey, absolutely loved this book!!!

This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. This book takes you on an amazing spiritual quest, which actually felt like I was on this wonderful journey with her. I cried and laughed through this book many times...and I have never had a book touch me that way ever. I was very sad when I finished the book, because I wanted more...so I just bought "The Committed" which is the sequel to this book. I cant wait to see the movie, I know it wont ever be as good as the book, but I want to actually see the places she lived during her journey...My dream is to someday go to Italy, India and now Indonesia is now on my list as well, so I cant wait to see the beautiful places she saw. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be moved in such a magical way, with such witty humor, she is such an intelligent and delightful writer!!!
Not that great

I found the book to be very shallow. The woman is completely self-absorbed in her life. There are worse things that happen to people and don't only think about themselves "groceries".
Execellent journey history

The way is written is easy to read, it is a great history from a woman that was looking for her balance. I am enjoy it since the first page. All my female friends have felt identified with in some way, the experiences the Liz tells in her journey any woman has had them or has dreamed about it. This book is high recommended.
LOVED IT!

Although there were some parts that were hard to get through as I felt it dragged on, I couldn't put it down! Which was hard as I bought it to read two weeks before my wedding! Needless to say, when the wedding was over I had it finished in no time and now am reading the next book, 'Committed'
